General Carbide|UK Introduces Mechanical Fastening Technique for Tungsten Carbide & Steel Components Used in Severe Service Valve Applications
Daventry, Northants, UK, 8 August, 2011
General Carbide|UK, a finisher and assembler of tungsten carbide used in a variety of tooling and wear applications, has developed GenFixx™, a mechanical fastening technique for joining tungsten carbide and steel components to each other. GenFixx is ideal for severe service valve assemblies which are subjected to harsh, erosive and corrosive conditions. It offers superior tensile strength compared to brazing, as well as higher shear strength and fracture toughness. In addition, GenFixx allows for visual verification of a proper assembly joint by non-destructive means, unlike brazing.
“With GenFixx, manufacturers and designers no longer need to rely on the reputation of the brazing operator,” says Thomas R. Shearer, Managing Director, General Carbide|UK. “Instead, they can verify the integrity of the joint using the naked eye. That kind of evaluation cannot be done with a traditional braze joint, which requires expensive, time-consuming destructive testing.”
General Carbide|UK has written a technical paper which explains the independent laboratory results of tensile strength testing and validates the superiority of GenFixx. The research findings are available at www.generalcarbide.co.uk or by contacting Mr. Shearer at email@example.com
